An iPad Pro 11 M4 (2024) screen replacement isn't just unscrewing the old screen and screwing in a new one. We filmed a real repair in our workshop, from opening it up to the first boot. In just over three minutes you can see what happens to your iPad during the 2–3 days it spends with us.
Before we start: protecting the cameras
The front camera module sits right at the edge of the frame, exactly where we work. So the first thing we do is cover it, so it doesn't get dirty or scratched while we clean.
Screw by screw: 0.1 mm that matters
Inside the iPad Pro the screws look alike, but they aren't all the same: some differ by just 0.1 mm, for example 1.0 mm and 1.1 mm. You can't see that with the naked eye. Yet a screw that's too long in the wrong hole can pierce a trace and damage the logic board. That's why every screw goes back into exactly the hole it came from.
The longest step: removing the old adhesive
The new display is held by adhesive strips that join it to the housing. They only hold properly on a perfectly clean frame. Leave old glue behind and the screen won't sit flat, and it can start lifting over time. A proper clean can take up to 30 minutes; in the video this part is sped up.
Always tested before final gluing
The new genuine Apple display keeps its protective film on until the very last moment. Before the final gluing, we always check that it works: touch, brightness, colours. Only then is it glued, the iPad set up and checked one last time.
